WHEN WAS IT BORN THE INTENTION to found a Centre in Italy based on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh? Whatever date is identified as a starting point, it becomes clear that the intention to found a Centre always existed beforehand in some way, if only in the aspirations of all those who came before us and handed on the hopes for a world founded on peace and brotherhood. And this intention will remain alive even if we should realize that the conditions for its manifestation are not all present yet in the planned times: the beauty of the journey that has been made so far will continue to nourish this aspiration in the heart of those who, together, have contributed to this stretch of the journey. Aware that there is no path to the community, the community is the path, our aspiration is present in any thought, word and loving action we devote to this project every day.
However, if we must fix a date, it would be July 2003, when a large group of Italian practitioners – some of whom were members of the Order of Interbeing – visited the Intersein Zentrum in Germany and laid the early foundations with Helga and Karl Riedl. The result of that meeting and a follow-up after the Pomaia retreat in late August was the formation of a workgroup. This began to meet every two months to build the energy to create a Centre in Italy.
